Keeping Historic Buildings Warm and Cool

Central/Mid-Michigan is full of history. Not only is Detroit considered by many to be the birthplace of America’s great automotive age, but the entire area – first settled by Europeans in the late 18th and early 19th centuries – is full of historic properties.

As a result, beautiful, historic buildings abound and many of their owners are in the process of restoring them to their glory.

Take, for example, the City Flats Hotel in Port Huron. We’ve completed installing new heating and cooling systems for this boutique hotel located in the historic Michigan National Bank building at the corner of the Black River and Military Street.

From the smallest job to the largest, we are the ones to call for any HVAC in historic homes and businesses.

We even maintain the in-wall heating systems for this historic (1902) Airbnb cottage apartment located with a St. Clair River view.

We’re renovating the heating system in our own new headquarters at 136 S. Main Street in Yale, Michigan. This is a labor of love and a work in progress showing great strides entering the new decade. We are proud to be helping with the revitalization of Main Street in Yale.

Perhaps our biggest and “most historical” HVAC renovation was the gorgeous circa 1894 Whitney Mansion in Detroit.

The Art of Restoring Heating and Air Condition Systems in Older Buildings

It is common for older buildings to have HVAC systems that were put together in a disorganized manner over the years since they were constructed before central air and heating systems came into existence.

Additionally, several older buildings that are classified as historic are safeguarded and must comply with strict historic conservation regulations during any renovations.

We have a fondness for old buildings, as evidenced by the fact that we have relocated our headquarters to one. Therefore, when we are tasked with updating heating and cooling systems in historic structures, whether they are private residences or commercial buildings, we take great care to adhere to any guidelines provided by preservationists. We make a concerted effort to do so even if the building in question has not yet been officially designated as historic.
